RE: Interleague 2013

Looks like fat lips diary is back?!! Lol as much as I was there in spirit,I was very happy with the team performance yesterday,every1 showed great enthusiasm, great team spirit when needed!! I certainly hope we can definitely have that same team spirit & attitude as yesterday with players hungry for the game... If we can keep that into the final league stage I can see us qualifying for next Aprils competition also, not bad considering Bicester haven't had a inter league team in 2years I think and possibly qualify for both inter league events in the same season.

After a poor showing last time out in April, not winning a match in the Interleague KO, Bicester Select entered the League stage with something to prove. A very different looking team from yesteryears, the new look team consists of youth, experience and hunger. Only a couple in the team who most would regard a 'bicester superstar', the team through the eyes of Witney would probably not pose too much of a threat.

The first match saw us take on the meat of the pack, Witney B. A team full of experience and talent it was never going to be easy. In the KO back in April, we lost 13-5 so wanted to give a better account of ourselves this time. Well it looked like being worse than last time, we lost 7 out the first 8 and were on route to anhialation. But the team made a great account of themselves in the last ten frames - winning 7 to come out of it with a respectful 10-8 loss.

After getting the hardest team out of the way, it was time to play Witney Wizards, the team that finished bottom in the KO. We drew 9-9 with them in the KO, luckily that was just enough to see us take 3rd spot and qualify for Yarmouth without winning a match! We knew we had to win this one, on paper we are probably the stronger, so had to show it. We started well but then went through a sticky middle section before finishing strong and ending up winning 11-7. We finally won a match this year!

Our final game was against Witney A, a team full of county players and who had drew 9-9 against Witney B the game before. This was a very strong team, but we were buzzing after finally getting a win on the board. From the off it was close, never being more than a frame in it. By the half way mark we were 5-4 up and knew we had a great opportunity to win this, but had to get ourselves a couple of frames more ahead. Well they didn't know what hit them, we used the 'shock and awe' tactics, creaming them 7-2 in the second half to notch up a breathtaking 12-6 scoreline.

Currently we are sitting second in the league but the job is only half done. A poor showing in September and all this will be for nothing. But we will go into that day knowing we can mix it with the rest.

A massive WELL DONE to the new look Bicester Select. This shows that there is strength within the Bicester league, and that given a chance, we  can prove it.

Bicester Select (played so far)-

Chris Cook, Lyndsey Cook, Bobby Hines, Paul Paddick, Alex Smart, Alan Harvey, Si Crawford, Anthony Scholz, John Bland, Aaron Wells, Dan Oates, Jeremy Sweetman, Gordon Bedford
